Life Changes

IliffFamily

On the 28th of October 2014, my beautiful son Gethin was born. Unfortunately he was born with a rare muscle weakness called Congenital Nemaline Myopathy. He spent the first two months of his life in the Neonatal unit of Cardiff hospital while his condition was diagnosed and my wife and I were trained to look after him. Gethin came home on new year’s eve and spent 4 months at home with us. He then became unwell and had to be transferred back to Cardiff. Gethin spent a further 8 months in hospital, during which he needed to have a tracheostomy, we needed to move house and then be trained again. We were able to bring him home on the 10th December 2015.

Our house now resembles a hospital critical care unit with large amounts of equipment, supplies, and carers coming in and out for various shifts. Our lives have changed quite dramatically and my time to illustrate is very limited. So I wanted to just write something to explain the long delay in updating the blog and portfolio. We have been blessed with such a sweet and special boy this last year who needs a lot of attention. I hope that in time I’ll be able to do more illustrating and blogging but I have other priorities right now.

Thanks!

-Chris
