The House of Illustration is working with the Folio Society again to put on The Book Illustration Competition. The competition’s requirements are for a cover design plus three scenes from the book. First prize is £4,500 and a commission to complete a further five illustrations to complete the book. Five runner-ups will be selected, each getting £500. View more about the competition here

Previous competitions have been to illustrate The Outsider and The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories.

This years book is Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

This description is taken from the House of Illustration’s synopsis of the book:

Huxley’s 1932 dystopian fable is the equivalent of a short sharp shock. It focuses on a world state in the 7th century AF (After Ford) where social stability is based on a scientific caste system. Bernard Marx is an unorthodox, unhappy Alpha Plus (a high intellectual grade) who visits a New Mexican Reservation and returns to London with a Savage. The Savage is a first fascinated by this new world, but eventually revolts against it, in a compelling demonstration of the incompatibility of human freedom and a scientifically trouble-free society.

I’m reading the book at the moment, it’s quite an easy read and relatively short. I’ve got a few ideas already but will probably need to read the book again so I better hurry up and finish it.

The level of entry looks very high so I wish everyone who enters the very best.
